Bernhard Schobinger
Against Method
February 29 – April 6, 2024
Galerie Francesca Pia is pleased to present an exhibition with sculptures and jewelry by the Swiss artist Bernhard Schobinger. The exhibition brings together a large selection of his works spanning the 1980s to the present day.
Often starting from his interest in specific material qualities, formal or cultural-historical characteristics of found objects and debris, Schobinger's highly experimental objects negotiate concepts of value in a radical way. Rich in narrative depth, with a distinct sense of humor and a strong undertow of danger and violence, his sculptures and jewelry explore a broad spectrum of human experiences and emotions.
Bernhard Schobinger’s work has been published extensively and is represented in significant public collections, among others the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; LACM, Los Angeles; Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia; Rotasa Collection Trust, California; National Museum of Australia, Canberra; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam; Pinakothek der Moderne, Die Neue Sammlung, Munich; Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Palais du Louvre, Paris; MUDAC, Lausanne; Museum Bellerive/Museum für Gestaltung, Zurich; Kunsthaus Zug, Zug; Schweizerisches National Museum, Zurich and the Museum für angewandte Künste, Köln. In 1998 he received the Françoise van der Bosch award.
